The Big Question we each have to ask ourselves as the 2012 election approaches: “Are we better off today than we were four years ago?”
Well let’s analyze that question. 1) In 2008 the country was on the verge of economic collapse, but we were brought back from the brink of depression and are now on the road to economic recovery. 2) In 2008 we were losing 800,000 jobs per month; we are now adding thousands per month. 3) In 2008 the housing market had collapsed, it is now in recovery. 4) In 2008 women were not guaranteed equal pay for equal work, but (Lilly Ledbetter Act) women now have the right to equal pay for equal work. 5) 30 million more Americans will soon be covered by health insurance thanks to the Affordable Health Care Act. 6) The unwarranted war in Iraq has ended and we are winding down the war in Afghanistan. 7)Gay and lesbian servicemen and women no longer have to hide who they are. 8) Automobile gas mileage will soon be doubled to help us wean ourselves from foreign oil. 9)College students will no longer be deported because they were brought to this country illegally as children. 10) Our world reputation has been restored in the eyes of our allies and adversaries alike.
I believe that our country is headed in the right direction and will continue to do so under the leadership of President Obama. Of course, there have been many setbacks due to the gridlock in Washington; We can overcome gridlock and get America back on the road to returning to its rightful position as the world leader. Return Barack Obama to the white house, elect Tammy Baldwin to the U.S. Senate and Pat Kreitlow to the U.S. House of Representatives.
