Baker garners honors at UWEC

Former Raider Amanda Baker has made a splash in her first two weeks with the UW-Eau Claire swimming and diving team, earning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week awards for diving two straight weeks.

Former Raider Amanda Baker has made a splash in her first two weeks with the UW-Eau Claire swimming and diving team, earning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week awards for diving two straight weeks.

In her collegiate debut on Oct. 19, Baker won both the one and three-meter dives as the Blugolds opened the season at NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato. Baker took first in the three-meter event with a score of 215.55 after winning the one-meter with a mark of 229.10.

On Oct. 27, Baker took third in both the one and three-meter dives facing UW-Stevens Point and Division II St. Cloud State University. In the one-meter, she scored 236.10, narrowly missing second place while finishing in front of two St. Cloud divers. In the three-meter, she scored 234.55, finishing less than three points out of first place behind two St. Cloud divers.

On Nov. 3 at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University, Baker took second on both the one and three-meter boards. She finished with 215.85 points in the one-meter dive and scored a season-best 230.10 in the three-meter.

Baker, a 2012 graduate of Hudson High School, was a four-time letterwinner in gymnastics, four-time letterwinner in swimming and one-time letterwinner in track for the Raiders. She was a two-time All-Big Rivers Conference diver and earned All-State honors her senior year when she finished eighth at the WIAA State Championships.
