DA’s Stop Drugs Poster ceremony set Dec. 3

Event includes motivational program with humor and magic

The community is invited to the 22nd annual Stop Drugs Program awards ceremony scheduled Monday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Hudson High School auditorium.

"This year we received approximately 1,200 posters from kids throughout the county,” said District Attorney Eric Johnson. “Seventeen people from the community gave their time and energy to judge the posters. It’s a huge task and made that much more difficult because of the great talent all of these kids showed in their work.

“Although only a few get to be announced as the final winners, all of the kids are winners as far as we’re concerned.”

Johnson coordinates the event and solicits donations from businesses and individuals from around the county to sponsor the contest.

“We are granting a total of $2,250 in Visa gift cards to the top 41 winners of the poster contest and the 2013 calendars will be ready for distribution at the ceremony itself,” Johnson said.

During the ceremony, Brian Richards, a professional education entertainer, will present a program called, “Drugs Steal the Magic!” It is an entertaining program featuring a motivational theme surrounded by humor, magic and plenty of audience participation.

Richards has been a professional entertainer for over 25 years and has worked with children his entire professional life. His first job out of college was as a child care counselor at St. Joseph’s home for children. He followed that with 12 years as an education director for a Twin Cities church.

“Brian knows how to connect with children,” Johnson said. “So come join us for a fun event with one of the most kid-experienced performers in Minnesota.”

Anyone is interested in obtaining the 2013 Stop Drugs calendar, may contact the district attorney’s Office at (715) 386-4658 starting Dec. 4.
