A crowd of several hundred children and parents greeted Santa Claus when he made his first appearance of the Christmas season in Hudson Friday evening.
He arrived from the north on Second Street, riding in a horse-drawn sleigh that stopped in the middle of the downtown.
The old gent led a countdown and switched on the Christmas lights with a wave of his staff. Then he waded into the crowd of eager children and parents - asking the youngsters about their wish lists and whether they had been good - on his way into Kelley Frame & Fine Art Galley for more personal encounters.

The group’s second big event is the downtown Candlelight Stroll this coming Friday night, Nov. 30.
The downtown streets will be lined with luminaries and visited by strolling Christmas carolers. Some shops will offer treats.
