School Board to look at 3 options for secondary space

The Hudson Board of Education voted Tuesday night to do more study on three options to address the need for secondary school space.

They are:

--Construction of a 4-year high school with the current high school converted to grades 7-8 and the current middle school converted to grades 5-6.

--Construction of a 3-year high school for grades 10-12 with the current high school converted to grades 8-9 and the current middle school converted to grades 6-7.

--Construction of a 6-12 STEM school with an emphasis on science, math and technology for 700 students; the current high school remains 9-12 and the middle school remains 6-8.

Board members looked at a dozen other options, many of them considered by the 2004 Facilities Task Force. The list also included options from a school board work session in October and from suggestions made by the public on the district’s web side.

The option of a three-year high school was the final recommendation of the Facilities Task Force to the board in 2004.

The board will also consider the recommendations of the Secondary Long-Term Space for Learning Community Advisory Committee, a group that is currently being put together that will be made up of citizens, board members and school administrators. Applications for the committee close on Friday, Dec. 14. The application is available on the district’s website at www.hudson.k12.wi.us. The committee is being led by Paul Bourget and Paul Moen.
