Five Wisconsin football assistants have accepted new jobs elsewhere.

Linebackers coach Andy Buh is the latest. It was reported Sunday that he’ll become the new defensive coordinator at California under new Golden Bears coach Sonny Dykes.

Athletic Director Barry Alvarez said he would have liked all of Bret Bielema’s former assistants to stay.

Alvarez confirmed weekend reports on the Internet that he thought about staying on as the head coach in 2013 in order to keep the assistants from bolting. But he said the same thing would have happened at this time next year, so he decided against it.

Alvarez says he doesn’t like the fact that some schools are pressuring the Badger assistants to take new jobs, giving them just 24 hours to decide in some cases. He says he doesn’t operate that way.

But with the head coaching situation in doubt, Alvarez says he can’t blame the assistants for protecting themselves and their families.

Alvarez also denied speculation that he’s having trouble finding a good head coaching candidate. He says he’s being patient, and he knows he’ll hire somebody good.

The other assistants moving on are offensive coordinator Matt Canada, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, defensive line Coach Charlie Partridge and receivers Coach Zach Azzanni.

Russell Wilson continues to shine

Former Wisconsin Badger Russell Wilson became the first Seattle quarterback ever to run for three touchdowns in a game, as the Seahawks crushed Buffalo 50-17 in Toronto.

Wilson ran for 92 yards and broke the team season record for rushing yards by a quarterback. He now has 402, eclipsing Rick Mirer’s 343 in 1993.

Wilson also threw for 205 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks, who’ve exploded for 131 points in a three-game winning streak.

Linebacker Javicz Jones of Mary Hardin-Baylor was named D3football.com’s defensive player of the year.

Mt. Union coach Larry Kehres was named to coach of the- year. His Purple Raiders won the Division III national title on Friday night with a 28-10 victory over St. Thomas of Minnesota.

Przybilla suspended

The NBA suspended Milwaukee Bucks center Joel Przybilla for one game, after he threw a basketball that hit a referee in Saturday night’s home loss to the L.A. Clippers.

It happened with 1:36 left in a 111-85 Clippers’ rout.

Przybilla, a 7-1 backup center, will serve his suspension Tuesday night when the Bucks host Indiana. The Bucks are now 12-10 overall. They’re just 6-5 at home.
