Raider boys’ hockey coach Brooks Lockwood was among a group of over 40 former Raider players who laced up the skates and hit the ice at John Gornick Memorial Arena the just before Christmas for the program’s first Alumni Hockey Tournament.

The alumni were split into four teams that each played two full games in a bracket-style format. Among the former Raiders who participated in the event were Stanley Cup Champion Davis Drewiske of the Los Angeles Kings, fellow former University of Wisconsin Badger Pete Talafous, and former head coach Mike Stoskopf.

“Family and friends enjoyed beverages and food from our mezzanine area while they were able to watch the past players,” Lockwood said. “The effort of the tournament and the great response we had could not have been done without the help of Luke and Holly Steele, Andy Kron and Jenna Churchill.”

Lockwood said the proceeds from the tournament has already provided record boards for the arena, which represent the accomplishments of past Raider teams.

“And we are currently updating our college photos for players who have played college hockey to be represented at the rink,” Lockwood said. “With future proceeds we will continue to represent the alumni at the arena with past photos and championship teams. We will also be using the proceeds to offset some costs for our coaches at the youth levels who donate numerous hours to the association.”

Lockwood said next year’s Alumni Tournament will again be scheduled during the holiday break.

“We hope to get even more family and friends to the event to watch hockey and reconnect,” he said.
