The Raider girls’ hockey team ran into a buzz saw last Thursday, Jan. 3 in Baldwin, falling to the seventh-ranked St. Croix Valley Fusion (River Falls/ Baldwin-Woodville/ St. Croix Central/ Glenwood City/ Boyceville), 7-0, in the Big Rivers Conference opener for both teams.
Seven different Fusion players scored goals as the Raiders were outshot, 34-19. Raider goalie Nali Mullan finished with 27 saves.
The Fusion jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead before Hudson kept them off the scoreboard in the second. St. Croix Valley tacked on three more goals in the third, including two in the first three minutes, to make the final 7-0.
Hudson was 0-for-3 on the power play while the Fusion scored one power play goal in four chances.
The Raiders, now 3-6-0 overall, 0-1-1 in BRC play, will host the Eau Claire/ Altoona Stars Thursday, Jan. 10, at 5 p.m. at Gornick Arena. The game will be part of a “Fill the Rink with Pink” fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for life of Hudson. Monday, Jan. 14, Hudson will host Black River Falls at 7 p.m.
