The Raider girls’ basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start and dropped a 59-48 Big Rivers Conference decision to Eau Claire Memorial last Thursday night in Hudson.

Playing their first game in 13 days, the Raiders managed just six points in the first eight minutes while falling behind 16-6. They trailed 29-15 at halftime before getting to within eight on two different occasions in the second half but they couldn’t draw any closer.

The loss dropped Hudson to 3-6 overall, 1-2 in BRC play while Eau Claire Memorial improved to 6-4 overall, 2-2 in the BRC.

“This was an extremely frustrating loss due to the lack of execution and ability to finish our shots early on in this game,” Raider coach Joe Behnke said. “It’s early on in conference play yet and we are continuing to make strides even though it doesn’t get indicated in the win-loss column.”

Sophomore Jordan Huber drained three three-pointers and led the Raiders with 15 points while freshman Anna Paquette hit two three-pointers and finished with eight points.

Senior Ellie Whitacre scored seven points, including one trey, while seniors Kindra Witthus and Sarah Krier finished with six points each. Sophomore Maggie Koehler contributed five points in the loss while freshman Kaylyn Jenkins added a free throw.

After visiting Chippewa Falls (7-3, 2-1) this past Tuesday night the Raiders will host River Falls (2-7, 0-3), Friday night, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
