The Badgers also snapped a six-game overall skid, while getting their first Big Ten victory against five losses.
Ohio State took a four-point lead at the break, but Morgan Paige tied the game for Wisconsin with a pair of three-pointers early in the second half.
The Buckeye defense then keyed on Paige, while the rest of the Badgers’ offense got hot. They jumped out to an 11-point lead with just under 14 minutes left, and they slowly pulled away after that.
Paige led the Badgers with 28 points, one shy of her career-best. She made all 11 of her free throws.
Jacki Gulczynski scored all 14 of her points in the second half, and Cassie Rochel had all eight of her points after halftime. Rochel also had career highs with 14 rebounds and five assists.
Wisconsin is 9-10 and will play at Iowa on Thursday night. The Buckeyes fell to 1-5 in the Big Ten, tied for last with the Badgers in the conference standings.
Men suffer first conference loss
A terrible start doomed the Wisconsin Badgers in their first Big Ten Conference loss of the season, 70-66, at Iowa on Saturday.
The Hawkeyes came out hot while the Badgers hit just one field goal in the first 10 minutes. With five minutes to go before half, Iowa had a 20-point lead.
Badger sharpshooters started finding the range and they closed to within three points, 66-63, with 22 seconds to go. Free throws and a late Badger turnover helped Iowa hold on.
The loss drops Wisconsin’s record to 13-5 over and 4-1 in the Big Ten Conference. The Badgers are now a half-game behind Michigan State in the standings.
George Marshall led Wisconsin scoring with 20 points. Sam Dekker had 13, but Jared Berggren was held to eight.
The Badgers play Michigan State at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Madison. The game will be telecast on ESPN.
