Basketball: Hudson boys edged by ECN in OT

Alex Herink hit a free throw in the final seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime, but Eau Claire North doubled up the Raiders in the extra session to escape with a 38-34 victory last Friday night, Jan. 18 in Hudson.

Herink’s free throw tied the score at 30 apiece before the Huskies outscored the Raiders 8-4 in overtime.

Hudson led 12-8 at the end of one but managed just a free throw in the second quarter as the Huskies took a 16-13 lead. The Raiders turned the tables on North in the third quarter, outscoring the Huskies 10-1, but North took a one-point lead in the final seconds before Herink hit a free throw to send the game to overtime.

Herink finished with 22 of the Raiders’ 34 total points while pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. Stef Smith hit three three-pointers and finished with nine points in the loss while Dan Kelly scored two points and Miles Lewis added a free throw.

The Huskies had a big advantage at the free throw line connecting on 11-of-15 shots compared to 4-of-6 for the Raiders.

Hudson, now 4-9 overall, 2-5 in Big Rivers Conference play, will visit Stillwater for a nonconference game this Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Menomonie (4-9, 3-4) Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, they visit BRC leader Rice Lake (12-3, 7-0).
