Trudy Popenhagen is winner of Blakeman Award

Trudy Popenhagen of Xcel Energy was the winner of the Marie Blakeman Award at the annual Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau banquet Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the YMCA Camp St. Croix. At the presentation were, from left, Paula Kimblline of Xcel Energy, Lloyd and Trudy Popenhagen, presenter of the award Barb Richardson (Marie Blakeman's daughter), Angela Popenhagen-Moeri (Trudy’s daughter), David Moeri and their children Brandon and Courtney.

The Large Business of the Year Award (more than 20 employees) went to Hudson’s Christian Community Home. At the presentation were a number of the facilities 252 employees, front left, Chamber President Kim Heinemann, Tina Burton, Sue Martin, CCH Executive Director Dan Goodier, Natalie Rivard, Jennie Orman and Bethann Richter; back, Board member Doug Peterson, Marie Gaspardo, Brenda Magadanz, Deb Bartz and Travis Sanders.

The Small Business of the Year Award (less than 20 employees) went to RJs Meats and Groceries. At the presentation were, front from left, Carol Reams, Rick Reams Anne Reams, Rebecca Reams, Kim Jelinek and Emily Worrell; back, Chamber President Kim Heinemann, Joe Reams, Eric Carlson, Anthony Reams, Aaron Reams and Jack Jelinek.

Kathy Newman, owner of Et Cetera in downtown Hudson, was honored as the Chamber Member of the Year. At the presentation were, from left, Chamber President Kim Heinemann, Jon Strand (son), Kathy Newman, husband Mark Newman and Tim Strand (son).

The Community Volunteer of the Year award went to Hudson High School student Katelyn Baier. She formed a foundation titled “Blankets for a Brighter Day” and with the help of others has, so far, donated 737 blankets to the Minneapolis Children’s hospital. At the presentation were, front from left, Chamber President Kim Heinemann, Kevin Baier (father), Shannon Baier (sister) Katelyn Baier, Teresa Baier (mother), Sherm Stromen (grandfather) and Mary Stromen (grandmother); back, aunt and uncle Patti and Brian Stromen.

Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year award went to Traci Leffner, center. Also at the presentation were Chamber President Kim Heinemann, left, and last year's winner Pete Keskey. The tiara is part of a tradition with the award.
