Close to 30 hot air balloons lifted off Saturday morning, Feb. 2, from the grounds of E.P. Rock Elementary School in a successful launch of the 24th annual Hudson Hot Air Affair festival.
It was cold, but conditions were perfect for flying, according to event organizer Evy Nerbonne. The cloud ceiling was high and the breeze was light.
The north wind pushed the balloons south. Many landed in the area of County Road F, west of River Falls.
About half as many balloons flew again at 3 p.m. Saturday. The wind had switched in the opposite direction by then, and they flew north over the city.
