WIAA hockey: Hudson advances to sectional final

Michael Hommes had a goal and an assist and Josh Mattis stopped all 27 shots he faced to lead Hudson to a 3-0 victory over Somerset in a WIAA boys sectional semifinal game Tuesday night in Somerset.
The third-seeded Raiders (19-5-0) advanced to this Friday’s sectional final game against top-seeded Superior (16-8-1) with a berth in next week’s WIAA State Tournament on the line. Superior moved on with a 4-1 victory over No. 4 seed New Richmond Tuesday night.
Henry Brose and Wyatt Dove added a goal each in Hudson’s victory while Daniel Tripicchio, Parker Shefveland and Emerson Korum each had an assist.
Hudson and Superior will face off at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 22, at the Dunn County Ice Arena in Menomonie. The Spartans won the only meeting between the two teams during the regular season, 5-4, back on Dec. 1.
