Milwaukee Bucks’ center Andrew Bogut will play for his native Australia in the Summer Olympics, but he won’t report at least until July 9 -- the first day he’s allowed to sign a contract extension with the Bucks.
His agent, David Bauman, is pushing for such a deal. Bogut is about to enter the fourth and final year of the contract he signed as a rookie.
However, the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement allows a five-year extension and the Bucks have previously said they’re open to such a deal.
Bauman says Bucks’ owner Herb Kohl has put together a 4 to 7 plan and he believes Bogut should be a part of it.
He also says Bogut is extremely happy with the hirings of General Manager John Hammond and Coach Scott Skiles.
Bauman called Skiles a great defensive-oriented coach.
“He will never tolerate guys dogging it,” Bauman said.
Bogut, a seven-foot center, is due to make $6.3 million next year. Officially, contract talks cannot begin until July 1.
