A missing woman and her children were found in an Ashland shelter early Sunday morning, according to Superior Police Capt. Chad La Lor.

Colleen Larson and her sons 11-year-old Garrett, 10-year-old Devan and 6-year-old Brodrick of Rush City, Minn., were subject of Superior Police Department investigation. Police were looking for Larson and her children after they were seen Thursday in Superior. It was reported Colleen Larson suffers from a medical condition that could lead her to harm her children

The boys were taken into protective custody around 1 a.m. Sunday, La Lor states in the news release issued a short time later.

Colleen Larson was arrested by the Ashland Police Department on charges of obstructing and interference with parental custody. It has not been determined if she will be formally charged. The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office will make that determination next week, La Lor stated.

The investigation into the family’s whereabouts was a joint effort by the Chisago County, Minn., Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Missing and Exploited Children and Adults, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Ashland Police Department and Lake Delton Police Department. The public also got involved by reporting possible locations where they saw the family to police.
