The U.S. Bank Championship opens today (Thursday) at Brown Deer Park and Joe Ogilvie is back to defend the title he won a year ago.

Last week’s tour winner, Kenny Perry, has a 7:30 a.m. tee-time.

Wisconsin pros J.P. Hayes, Mark Wilson, and Skip Kendall are taking part, along with Jon Turcott of Middleton, Wisconsin Badger men’s coach Jim Schuman, and the Badgers’ Dan Woltman.

Wilson says the winning score could be 20-under-par if it stays warm and the winds die down.

The players say the rough is not as bad as in previous years and after a rainy period, the course is still relatively soft, but it’s supposed to be hot the next couple days, with highs reaching the 90’s.

That means the greens will need more water to keep them from drying out.

Wednesday, the Aurora Health Care Pro-Am was canceled due to thunderstorms during the competition.

University of Wisconsin Football Coach Bret Bielema and the Packers’ Mark Tauscher were among those on the course at the time.
