Icy roads caused by freezing rain killed at least three people in the southern half of Wisconsin this past weekend.
In Grant County, the Wisconsin State Patrol said Sandra Paulson, 54 and Albee Paulson, 62, both of Monroe, died after their car collided with an oncoming semi-truck.
It happened Sunday afternoon on Highway 80 near Hazel Green.
In Dodge County, Jared Salazar, 7, of Beaver Dam, was killed Saturday night on Highway 151.
The SUV driven by his father rolled over three times, slid, was hit by an oncoming car, and rolled over again. Jared was one of four Salazar quadruplets born in Madison on Dec. 8, 2001.
The Wisconsin State Journal said they were believed to be the first quads ever born in Madison. Jared’s sister and two brothers had minor injuries, along with parents Hector Salazar and Rose Balleza, and the driver of the other car. All were treated at nearby hospitals.
Dodge County alone had 14 accidents and three dozen slide-offs Saturday night and Sunday. County officials said they couldn’t even keep their plows on the road due to the ice.
