Nine local organizations will team up to hold a summit 7:30 a.m.-noon May 21 at the Bethel Highlands Lutheran Church, 504 Frontage Road, Hudson, because they see the evidence of hunger and homelessness on the rise in both Pierce and St. Croix counties.
Bethel Lutheran Church, Two Rivers Community Land Trust, St Croix Valley Community Foundation, United Way of St. Croix Valley, West Cap, Salvation Army, St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest Heartland and the UW Extension welcome any and all attendees interested in understanding the challenges and developing solutions to master them.
Professionals and volunteers working with people of limited income, business and community leaders, policymakers, faith communities, school liaisons and concerned citizens should come. Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Dr. Julie Keown-Bomar of the UW-Extension plus a Habitat homeowner and former resident of Grace Place in Somerset.
Breakout sessions on hunger and housing follow the speeches, along with discussion and action planning.
Registration before May 15 costs $10; after that or at the door it costs $15. The price includes a continental breakfast during the 30-minute registration.
Organizers ask that even if it’s after the 15th when people decide to come, please still call the UW-Extension office to rsvp: 715-273-6781. To pre-register, send a check payable to the UW Extension along with name, address, phone number, e-mail address and organization name to: Pierce County UW-Extension, Pierce County Office Building, 412 W. Kinne St., P.O. Box 69, Ellsworth, WI 54011.
