The Canadian National Railroad was hoping to demolish a 100-year-old ore dock in Ashland by now.

But two peregrine falcons have built a nest there, and they had three baby chicks there.

Now, the DNR says the dock’s not going anywhere until the birds leave.

And that could be another 5-6 weeks.

The nest was discovered earlier this month, and the demolition project was halted.

Wildlife biologist Todd Naas says three babies are a healthy number for the rare birds.
