Brewers fall to Cardinals, drop to a season-low in NL Central

The Milwaukee Brewers blew a 3-0 lead, and lost at St. Louis 7-6 Tuesday.

Matt Holliday broke a 4-4 tie in the eighth with a game-winning three-run homer off Todd Coffey.

The Brewers scored two in the ninth off Cardinals’ closer Ryan Franklin – who signed a two-year contract extension before the game, and earned his 36th save.

Joel Pineiro got the win, despite giving up four runs in seven innings. He’s now 8-0 since July 1, and he’s 14-9 overall.

David Weathers took the loss in relief. He’s 3-5.

Albert Pujols also homered for the Cardinals, who’ve won four straight and 15 of their last 18.

They remain 10.5 games ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. Casey McGehee went 2-4 with four RBI’s and a three-run homer for the Brewers, who dropped to a season-low 13 games out of first and 8.5 out of Wild Card contention.

J.J. Hardy singled and drove in a run in four trips, in his first game after 20 days in the minors.

The Brewers and Cardinals will play again today.
