Wisconsin’s largest county might change its mind about giving health-care benefits to the domestic partners of county employees.
Milwaukee County’s personnel committee voted 5-to-2 this week to sustain a veto of those benefits.
The County Board originally voted 13-to-6 a few weeks ago to grant domestic partner coverage. But County Executive Scott Walker vetoed the measure on November 16th, saying it would cost too much at a time when Milwaukee County faces major budget problems.
A veto override vote comes up Thursday before the full County Board; at least one supervisor would have to change his or her original vote for the veto to be upheld.
