The Green Bay Packers are making money, just not as much as they had been making. As a publicly-owned team, the Packers must report financial information to their shareholders.

The Pack officially posted a $9.9 million profit in the fiscal year that ended March 31. That’s less than half the $20 million profit from the previous year.

Team officials blame the decrease in profit on escalating player costs. While the Packers took in a gross total of $258 million last year, a bump of $10 million, player costs jumped by $22 million.

Team officials say those player costs have been increasing by an average of 11 percent per year over the past four years, while revenue was increasing 5.5 percent, on average, over the same four-year period.
