Utility-bill deadline approaches

Wisconsinites behind on their utility bills are being advised to arrange a payment plan now or they could lose service starting April 15 – the end date of the state’s annual winter moratorium on utility disconnections.

Most people behind on their bill either will or already have heard from their utility.

Wisconsin Public Service of Green Bay says about 20,000 of its customers in northeast and north central Wisconsin are at least four months in arrears. That’s about the same as a year ago, when Public Service ended up disconnecting 16,000 customers.

The utility’s credit manager advised people who are late on their bills to contact their company about a payment plan right away. He said the closer it gets to the April 15 deadline, the tougher it is to make arrangements that would prevent a cutoff.
