The Sierra Club isn't suddenly going to stop saying that the Stillwater area is a protected scenic waterway. I'm not sure why some of you think you can harrass them into believing something else. It's protected. That isn't some "progressive mentality". It's just how it is. If you actually understood where the hangup is in this process, it would be a different story. But you don't. You think it's liberals causing problems instead, because liberals are evil and republicans are righteous. What you don't see is that you're a part of a group of A-holes who hates a different group of A-holes. Nothing more, nothing less. Some of you just need to grow up and quit pretending your group is the only one that knows what's going on and how everything should be.

CCC, If you had a "TEA Party mentality," would we expect you to spit on Black Senators and congressmen and call them the N-work? Would we expect to see video of you screaming the fag word at elected officials who don't vote the way you want them to? If you don't like Ron Kind, vote against him in the election.

Treehugger....I would rather have a TEA Party mentality and keep my Freedom...then your ideal of the progressive socialist agenda to take everybodies money and spread the weath syndrome.........Now back on Topic..........................."In addition, the bridge has been deemed "structurally deficient" by inspectors, receiving a sufficiency rating of 32.8 on a 100-point scale, as of June 23, 2008. Because of the bridge's design, it is considered "fracture critical"; there is no built-in redundancy to prevent the entire structure from collapsing if one component fails. In comparison, the I-35W Mississippi River bridge, another fracture critical bridge which collapsed on August 1, 2007, received a sufficiency rating of 50. [3] The bridge currently has a height restriction of 13 feet, 2 inches, and a weight restriction of 40 tons.[2] " ...... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stillwater_Bridge_(St._Croix_River) ... This bridge was built in 1931. Now go to the Prescott Point Douglas Bridge, the old bridge was built in 1922 and replaced in 1990......... http://www.johnweeks.com/bridges/pages/sc01.html ........ Everyone is happy in Prescott. It is time to build a new bridge, and limit the Stillwater Bridge to a historic use level. But instead we have the "Green" Sierra Club stalling the process, you may need to contact the very legislators who the Sierra Club endorses ..... http://www.sierraclub.org/politics/endorsements/ ...... Our Dear Ron Kind, who stated "“I think it’s a very disappointing decision,” said U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, on Thursday afternoon. “This is a setback in the progress of the bridge, but hopefully only one that is minor.” He added he’s already been on the telephone with area leaders about the ruling and he’s committed to working with local authorities to push the bridge plan forward........ I personally think Ron Kind should talk to the Sierra club which endorses Ron Kind on the Sierra club's national web site.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. To say that you're paranoid doesn't even cover half of your problems, buddy.

Jack M. No, I am just being a realist. Obama has already bought into the Global Warming scam, so what better photo op than to oppose a "sprawl inducing" brdige project that violates the Scenic Rivers Act. Considering it connects two Republican counties, this is a no lose opportunity for Obama. Just like last time, everything ready to go, a democrat gets in as president, the NPS switches top brass to more green leaning candidates, and down goes the bridge proposal in flames.

Frank, Obama (evil muslim who hates America, the 4th of July and cherry pie) is going to be the one to put the kabosh on the Stillwater Bridge replacement? I think your tinfoil hat is pinched on a little too tight.

Lets look at some facts. The issue of multiple bridges seems to be a moot point, since at Hudson we went from a cramped 2 lane bridge to two wide 4 lane bridges with nary a peep from the Sierra Club. The real issue is a new crossing not the number of brdiges. So why not build a new bridge next to the old one. Have it take off from the dock cafe and rise over the exisitng road to link up with Hwy 64. The old bridge could still be used to go up Cty E. MNDOT needs to find what follows the Scenic Riverway Act and design a solution to fit the law. MNDOT seems to only want a freeway design, it might need to be a parkway design with a slower speed limit. With Obama as President we can expect the NPS will not support the existing design. So we either compromise on the bridge or get nothing.

ccc, you called them thugs and such. Commies, reds, socialists, etc. You seemed to have sprung from the spew of those that can't hold a civil debate and must slap negative labels on all those who dare have an opinion that differs from yours...you know...the TEA Party mentality.
