Cleat, attend the pancake breakfast the fire department puts on this spring even though I haven't heard a date. I got my eyes opened last year on equipment and storage needs. Sure some office and storage space will open up, but is it what is really needed? Do you need to be running across the street to get something in a crucial situation? And would it not be cheaper to build sleep-in quarters for EMS people versus renting an apartment in nearby downtown if your going to continue to offer the service? As I said hopefully there is enough cash to meet all recommendations of the public safety space needs study, not just the PD.

Well actually Kirk I do live in Hudson. When it told me to enter the zip code I must have missed the disclaimer saying "Beware! You may only comment on articles pertaining to this city! and since you are so concerned I am formerly from New Richmond, which the Apple River does not run through.

interesting thoughts Patrick H. Something to chew on. And yes I too am curious as to where Kevin H resides. Every other candidate has had their address published but not Kevin H. School Board, Council, County Board, all with addresses? hmmmm.

As stated, I didn't expect the municipal building to sell as quick as it did, good for the council. My problem with this whole thing is that the city just paid for a study on space needs for the PD, EMS, and Fire Department (in other words public safety). The library issue is suddenly remedied, the PD is getting new digs even though I've heard the word "temporary" for them. Now, you can maybe put some of the fire department and EMS needs into space begin vacated by the PD, but what needs will that fix. I'm thinking you can't get any of the emergency apparatus into the former police garages so your left with offices and a reception area. My question would be will the EMS and FD needs be filled, or won't any funds be available for those needs. Just my thinking.

The only reason the police department "has recieved" more under "this administration" is the fact all the projects are still the ones fronted by Chief Andy Smith. Now that choice #9 is at the helm we'll see how much progress is made. As for the money changing hands after the projects have started...no surprise hold it out there and then pull it away...normal stuff. Kevin...I hope your stand as mayor is more than just getting money for the PD...a little more vision would be nice...and while I'm at it...do you live in the city?

You are correct John. We could build our library on the Apple River in downtown New Richmond. Thanks for your concern though. Its a good thing you won't have to help pay for our lost tax revenue. Unless you decide you want to move to Hudson.

I wonder how much property tax is being lost by the city occupying a large building over looking the river? It would make more sense to build goverment buildings on land undesirable to private industry so they can collect taxes on the prime property and buildings. I dont know for sure but I bet there loosing $15,000+ anual property tax just from that building.

Hey Kevin, You need to relax. A little bias which can be very very bad for politics. The police dept. has received more in the last 2 years then they did the whole time in the previous administration. I assume you get your facts from your father. You need to just settle down a bit. They have been treated pretty good so far. So let;s say you become Mayor, you plan to increase the Police dept. budget.....where are you going to get the money from to do that without raising the mill rate and without taking from other needed departments?

its looking ok, except for that 200,000 was earmarked for the police dept, to include the move and remodel. Now you are taking that 50,000 dollars out of the 200,000 the police dept was budgeted for. Crafty politics, to say the least. It looks good to the people and the media, but when the police dont have the proper equipment and training for the people. who loses ou then?

Gotta admit, the mayor is looking good with the whole process.
