Eighth-grader from Waunakee Parker Dietry started competing Tuesday, May 31 at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. The 14-year-old qualified by winning the state spelling bee in Madison two months ago. Dietry, who had been preparing for up to 30 hours a week, advanced to round 6 with 25 other spellers then called an incorrect spelling for the word "vitrifier."
