School Column: Dog track site is best suited for secondary school
The characteristics of the St. Croix Meadows dog track make it an exceptional site for a future secondary school.
RELATED CONTENTLetter: Parents and coaches blamed
Having harsher penalties for checking from behind in youth hockey is just putting a band-aid on a widespread problem and, in my mind, is a cop out by the governing bodies which just puts the responsibility, that should on adults, right back on the young players.
Letter: Critical of school plan
Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten’s column in last week’s paper made for some interesting reading. First of all, advocating for a yes vote at work on taxpayer funded computers seems to be a violation of Wisconsin law.
Letter: Entitled to one’s opinion
I read Sandy Gerhke’s letter describing what she observed at the school board meeting (that someone said the track property is practically free) and found it a pretty accurate description of the event. Then I read Mary Beth Lorbiecki Mataya’s version of the meeting in which she claims, no one said the track property was “free.”
Letter: Thoughts on teachers
The sermon at my church this week was about teachers. I was reminded that Jesus himself was referred to as Rabbi, or teacher, as translated from the Hebrew. It struck me as ironic, that many in our community, have chosen to vilify and demonize those employed in that most noble of professions.
Letter: Back Bruch in primary
Let’s keep our ship from sinking by voting for Liz Bruch in the school board primary (Feb. 21). Liz is a longtime Hudson resident, committed to public education and will represent the students and residents of the Hudson School District.
Letter: Questions school
Thanks to people like John Windolff and Marion Shaw for their input on the dog track for a new school. They could not have said enough. I hope there are a lot more good people that live in the Hudson school district that feel the same way.
Letter: Defends her letter
Last week Ms. Mataya took offense to my previous letter wherein I talked about my attendance at the last school board meeting. She accused me of “casting aspersions ... on independent engineers.” She accused me of “undercutting reputations to make a point.”
Letter: Ideas for county home
Any taxpayer support of the St. Croix Health Center, the tax-subsidized nursing home, should come from an increase in sales taxes to spread the burden across the whole community. The current scheme to support the financially failing facility is to again encumber only property owners, a small percentage of the eligible voters in St Croix County.
Letter: Disagrees with column
It’s now been almost six years since I entered my wife in the memory care unit at the Comforts of Home here in Hudson. Before entering her there, I scoped out seven other such facilities that I considered to be within driving distance of our home in Prescott.
Letter: Liked column in newspaper
This letter is being written in response to Randy Hanson’s factual column about the St. Croix County Nursing Home in New Richmond. It was printed in last Thursday’s Hudson Star-Observer.
Letter: Takes issue with Knudson
Last May when the Voter ID Bill was in the Legislature I had numerous e-mail communications with Representative Dean Knudson (R, Hudson). I was asking for evidence to support Knudson’s allegations of voter fraud.
Letter: The other side of coin
Only getting 400 words to counter last week’s Randy’s Ramblings 1,082 word offering seems hardly fair. Nevertheless his last opinion piece concerning decent pay at the county subsidized New Richmond nursing home left much of the story behind the home’s operation untold.
Letter: Not a fan of Walker
During his 2010 campaign, Gov. Walker’s marquee promise was to create 250,000 private-sector jobs during his first term. Every month since July 2010, Wisconsin has lost jobs and ended the year with a meager 13,500 new, private-sector jobs created. At this rate, it will take Walker 18.5 years to reach his 250,000 jobs goal.
Letter: Recall is new ‘industry’
After spending the last two weeks in Madison, I have come to the conclusion the recall industry will become the third largest revenue generator in Wisconsin.
