Our View: Teachers are now biggest lobbyists

So who are the big-spending lobbyists in the state of Wisconsin? Is it bankers? Is it insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, health care specialists?

Taking the sting out of honey laundering

My family likes honey. There’s often a little bear shaped container of honey in our pantry. That little bear may have come from Sue Bee Honey, one of America’s largest and oldest honey cooperatives in Sioux City, Iowa. Formed by five beekeepers in 1921, today Sue Bee produces 40 million pounds of honey.

Margaret's Musings: So what does $4.4 million buy these days?

My ears perked up last week, when a small article appeared in the Hudson Star-Observer announcing the bridge would be painted this summer. That would be our “Bridge” -- the one I have to admit to being pretty close to.

Guest Editorial: Legislation threatens to undermine Wisconsin’s public notice laws

Four bills now moving through the state Legislature, seemingly small in scope, threaten to undermine Wisconsin’s public notice laws. What’s the big deal? The answer, unfortunately, is a lot.

Concerned about traffic

Having lived off Hudson’s longest dead end road (Krattley) for the past 16 years, I know how narrow it is to walk on Krattley and how much traffic there is.

Praise for Ed Lucas

We would like to thank Mr. Lucas for all of his efforts to ensure that our youth recognize that they can make a difference in our community, and in the world.

Running for mayor

My name is Kevin Hartman, and I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the office of Mayor in the City of Hudson. I am 24 years old, and I am currently a student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Redesign Hudson sewer

I hear that Hudson is applying for a permit to expand the wastewater plant that serves Hudson and North Hudson. Our plant has an excellent history of innovation and operation. Low interest rates and the desire to stimulate the economy make this a comparatively excellent time for such a project.

Another Chamber view

Recently the Hudson Star-Observer noted the many ways in which our local Chamber of Commerce helps the business community and our community as a whole. I agree with this assessment. I was recently surprised, however, to learn that our local Chamber was a contributing member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Believes bail too low

I am concerned that cash bail in this case was set too low. According to your article, Lawrence Mattison, who has a “similar previous conviction,” is charged with 29 felony counts for possession of child pornography.

Unhappy with letter

Regarding Kevin Moelter’s letter to the editor on Feb. 25: It highlights what is wrong with small government, and government in general.

Addresses school board

I applaud the reality that some of you (school board members - perhaps only because it is reelection time?) are finally looking at making some hard decisions about trimming costs. Finally. While cutting out the driver’s education program will save at least $96,000, there are several other areas you must consider as well.

Supports Standafer

I urge my fellow North Hudson residents to return Daryl Standafer to the St. Croix County Board of Supervisors.

Supports Kapanke

We, as country, are at a fork in the road. As voting citizens we must look at where the health care debate has taken us in Congress. President Obama has recently stated that talking about health care is over and all that can be said about health care reform has been stated. So the question for us as members of the third district is where does our Congressman stand on this crucial vote?

Focus on spending, taxes

Like many, I have become increasingly frustrated with elected officials who are out of touch with those they represent.
