Our View: Early release program isn’t worth the cost
Wisconsin’s budget crisis is having a huge impact on the state. School funding, local government aid and various programs aimed at helping the disadvantaged are getting cut – all in an effort to reduce a projected $6.6 billion budget deficit.

Toyota’s trouble with revving engines reminded me of my own encounter with technology gone wild. No, my 10-year-old, four-cylinder import didn’t take off like a bat out of heck. My problem was with the phone/cable TV/Internet provider.
RELATED CONTENTSeeks stories about Jansen
The Star Observer has had a couple of stories about the request by Colleen O’Brien-Berglund, chair of the North Hudson Park Board, for persons who had been influenced by the late Police Chief Rich Jansen. She would like to have people relay stories and anecdotes to be used in preparation for the dedication of a park in his honor.
Student backs driver’s ed.
I understand the need to cut classes from the curriculum at Hudson High School because of budget deficits as well as lack of space, as I am a junior at the high school and I experience these issues daily.
Supports driver’s ed.
One of the scariest days of a parent’s life is the day your child gets his or her license and you hand them the keys and send them out on their own. Did you know that if you send your child to a private driving school that they may be instructed by someone with just 40 hours of training?
Should save driver’s ed
The editorial in the Star-Observer on Feb. 18 had it right regarding the driver’s education program in the Hudson School District. It was stated that it seems a bit counter-productive to abandon the school’s (by numbers) most utilized class. Agreed!
Supports driver’s ed.
Superintendent Eggebraaten makes several points in her argument for the elimination of driver’s education from the HHS curriculum that cannot go unanswered.
Driver’s ed. worth saving
I question the savings that dropping driver’s ed. will bring the district. When the board hired highly paid managers for each administrator, and a communication specialist, it seemed being financially responsible was not a priority. Now to look “responsible,” they pull a class that 92 percent of students take?
Has praise for Phipps
Another amazing production has finished its run at the Phipps Center for the Arts. Anyone who saw “Willy Wonka” would agree that the hours upon hours of time put into the play were evident; culminating in a beautiful, high-quality show featuring scenery, choreography, costumes and acting that rivaled anything you would see in larger theaters in the cities.
Has St. Joe concerns
Please allow me to answer the accusations of Kevin Moelter’s letter from the Feb. 25 issue. I’ve been called a lot of things in my life, but a totalitarian rule radical is a new one.
Agrees with previous letter
I read Elizabeth Bruch’s letter in the Feb. 25 edition of the Star-Observer with great interest. Ms. Bruch posed two (in her words “radical”) propositions for consideration by the Hudson School District.
Unhappy with town action
Well, I suppose I should be angry because of the letter Kevin Moelter, 2nd Supervisor, town of St. Joseph, submitted last week.
Critical of state plan
Last week the Wisconsin Senate irresponsibly approved a new government-run health care plan, BadgerCare Basic. Soon it will go to the Assembly.
Not impressed by Tea Party
The Tea Party held its first national convention in Nashville early in February drawing a colorful but quarrelsome hodgepodge of fundamentalist Christians, anti-tax activists, anti-immigration cranks, mainstream conservative Republicans, libertarians, militia members packing weapon, and social conservatives who resent the intervention of courts and the federal government on issues such as abortions and gay marriages.
Our View: St. Croix EDC works hard behind the scenes
The St. Croix County Economic Development Corp. is a hard-working group in the Hudson area that performs a tremendous service that, in the long run, has a positive economic impact on everyone.
