The Birkmose, Wiberg & Co. store at 509 Second St. was, in its time, Hudson's leading retail business. This photo, dating from about 1900, shows C.J. Birkmose (the man with the mustache) at the left, with some of his employees. Note the wooden sidewalk, the merchandise in the display windows and the vegetable and fruit boxes outside. Dania Hall was located above the store. The business was sold to Herman G. Erickson in 1939. Star-Observer photo archives
