Steven was born Oct. 19, 1952, in St. Paul to Silas and Helen Ekblad. He graduated from Eau Claire Memorial in 1970.
Steve served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1975.
He married Victoria Gilbert on July 23, 1977, in Eau Claire. He then moved to Hudson, Wis., living there until 1996. From there, he found Menomonie, and it became home. He worked for 3M in St. Paul for over 30 years.
Steven was a volunteer EMT for a number of years in Hudson, Wis., always selflessly helping others.
Steven loved all sports, but his favorite was bowling. Steven was an avid bowler his entire life and loved coaching Junior Bowling as well as the bowling team from UW-Stout.
Steven is survived by his wife, Victoria; two children, John and Stephanie; and two grandchildren, Penelapea and Silas; brothers, Dayton (Pam), Jeff (Katie) and Daniel (Shelley); sister, Karen Tyler (Tom); and other loving relatives and very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Silas; and his mother, Helen.
Steven was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, co-worker, coach, but most of all, a wonderful friend to everyone who knew him.
His sudden death comes as a great shock to all of us. He is gone much too soon.
Steven was very generous in life, giving all of his time and talents to help others. Even in death Steve was able to continue giving by being an organ donor.
Steven will be dearly missed...
A celebration of Steven’s life was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at the Mable Tainter Theatre, 205 Main St., in Menomonie, Wis.
