Retta Irene McIntyre Albert was born May 30, 1912, to John and Eva McIntyre on a farm near Wayne, Neb. Retta died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the River Falls Kinnic Home, where she had been a resident for the last 15 months.

She attended first through eighth grade at the Wayne State College Campus School in Wayne, Neb. She attended Wayne High School for three years and then graduated from the high school in Stanton, Neb., in 1930. She attended the Wayne State College and obtained a teaching certificate in 1933.
From the spring of 1933 until 1936 she taught in a one-room school in Dixon County, Neb. In the fall of 1936 she became employed as a cashier for the World Insurance Co. of Omaha, Neb.
She held this position until her marriage to Donald D. Albert of Wayne, Neb., on June 15, 1943, at the Pearl Methodist Church in Omaha, Neb. They farmed with Don’s folks at Wayne until 1951, when with son Dean, they moved to River Falls, Wis.
Retta graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1956. She taught sixth grade in Prescott, Wis., from 1956 to 1975. Don and Retta moved into Edgewater Apartments in 1989. From 1978 until 2002 she served as tour director for the River Falls Senior Center.
She belonged to the Retired Educators Association, River Falls Senior Center, Home Culture Club, Tuesday Club, Glover Homemakers, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Methodist Circle, and Recorder for the Royal Neighbors Lodge for 18 years.
Survivors include son Dean and his wife, Phyllis; grandson Wade, wife Nicole Bradford-Albert; sister-in-law Vera McIntyre; nieces Patricia McIntyre Leithoff, Coleen McIntyre Bull and Lois Albert Murchek, all of Omaha, Neb., and Terry Albert Ragolia of Ringoes, N.J.; and nephew, Loren Albert of Latham, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; and one brother, Waldo McIntyre.
Pallbearers were Chris Delzer, Justin Delzer, Clair Wilcoxson, Gary Senn, Doug Thompson and Don Chapman.
Visitation was at Cashman-Hill Funeral Home Tuesday, May 19, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services were at the United Methodist Church of River Falls at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, River Falls.
