Phyllis recently moved to River Falls but was a longtime resident of New Jersey. Formally Phyllis Geis, she was born in New York City on Sept. 25, 1920, to English and Dutch immigrants, and lived there until her marriage in 1944. The marriage ended in divorce in 1962. Phyllis never remarried and worked 30 years as a legal secretary in New Brunswick, N.J., while raising three sons.

She was a leader in many social organizations, loved the Jersey shore, and played a mean game of Scrabble.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her sons Jerry and Jim Landers.

She is survived by her son Rett Landers of Hudson, Wis., and his wife, Cindy Landers, and their children, Allison Landers Stewart of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ashley Landers of Menomonie, Wis.; grandchildren Stephanie Landers of Plainsboro, N.J., and Christopher Landers of Ft. Collins, Colo., and his son, Owen; her sister, Violet Milazzo of Bloomfield, N.J.

A gathering of friends and family in Phyllis’s honor is planned at the home of Rett and Cindy Landers in Hudson from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10.
