Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud, for Erna Leora Cass, 85, who died on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at home, surrounded by her seven "J's." Friends and relatives may call from 2:30-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Homes, St. Cloud, and also after 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Bethlehem Lutheran prayers will be at 4 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Erna was born in Bruce, S.D., to Fred and Eva (Levitt) Taken. She married Charles Cass in 1945 in South Dakota. They moved to Warroad, Minn., where Erna had a full-time job of raising seven children. After the children were raised, Charles and Erna moved to Illinois where Erna worked for Motorola and Tropolite. Both retired and moved to St. Cloud.
Erna and Charles crafted for many years; they traveled to various craft shows where they sold their creations. Erna enjoyed crafting, sewing, and cooking. You could always come to her home and have a homemade cookie or a slice of the best homemade bread. She loved making cookies for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Erna was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and DAV.
Erna is survived by her children, Judi (Dave) Swenson of Hudson, Wis., Joanie Peterson of Warroad, Jan (Art) Frank of Bismarck, N.D., Joyce Cass of St. Cloud, Jeanie (Jon) Frolander of St. Cloud, Jerry (fiancée Mary VanWinkle) of St. Charles, Ill., and Jim (Luella) of Warroad; sister, Cleo Cass of Gilbert; brother, Darel Taken of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.
Erna was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents, Fred and Eva; three brothers, Glen, Dale and Jay; one great-grandchild, Tyler Shipman; and one son-in-law, Doug Peterson.
