Robert James Hartmon, age 85, of Burkhardt, Wis., died on Saturday, Nov. 19, in New Richmond, Wis., after a long illness.

Robert was born on Aug. 26, 1926, in St. Paul, Minn., to James and Myrtle (Redlich) Hartmon. Bob lived in Burkhardt for most of his life. He graduated from Somerset High School with the class of 1944.

In September of 1945, Robert was married to Lilly Ann Rivard of Somerset. This marriage would last over 66 years and was blessed with eight children. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite things was a big family get-together with a potluck meal.

Bob was a farmer for many years and then later became an over-the-road truck driver. He had many hobbies with one of his favorites being gardening. Every year his goal was to raise a garden big enough to feed an army. Bob would have to measure his sweet corn from a step ladder and a single tomato from his garden would weigh about a pound. What Bob really loved about his gardening was sharing his homegrown, fresh vegetables with his friends and family. Bob enjoyed socializing with friends, sharing in good conversation, and he was always up for a game of cards. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

Bob will be very much missed by his wife of 66 years, Lilly Ann; children, Kathy (Shawn) Cain of New Richmond, Jim (Carolyn) Hartmon of Roberts, Wis., Bob (Mary Ann) Hartmon of Roberts, Colleen (Bill Peterson) of Hammond, Wis., Mike (Gena) Hartmon of Burkhardt, Rick Hartmon of Somerset, John (Connie) Hartmon of Hudson, Wis., and Tom (Kristi) Hartmon of River Falls, Wis.; 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Aryliss Plourde of Somerset; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother in 1941, his father in 1976, and his sister, Jean Kokkeler, in 1990.

Services for Bob will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somerset. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., all at the church on Wednesday. Memorials given will be donated to the Hartmon family's charity of choice in Bob's name.

Services are in the care of the O'Connell Family Funeral Home - Hudson, 715-386-3725.
