LeRoy "Midge" V. Stagg, age 85, of Hudson, Wis., died Dec. 31 at the Veteran's Home of Minneapolis.
LeRoy "Midge" V. Stagg, age 85, of Hudson, Wis., died Dec. 31 at the Veteran's Home of Minneapolis.
Midge was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Bemidji, Minn., the son of Roy and Louise (Sunde) Stagg. He grew up and graduated from high school in Bemidji. Upon graduation, LeRoy worked for the MN State Highway Department. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. After serving his country, he returned to his job at the highway department. He was united in marriage to Darlene Oswald in 1955 at the First Lutheran Church of Bemidji. In 1959, he began work at the U.S. Post Office in Bemidji, first as a clerk and later as rural mail carrier, later retiring in January 1987.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji. LeRoy enjoyed gardening, fishing, curling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In 2006, LeRoy and Darlene moved to Hudson to be near their children. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. In 2010, he moved to the Presbyterian Home of Arden Hills and then the Veterans Home of Minneapolis where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; two sons, Mark (Susan) of Cottage Grove and Tim (Jody) of Hudson; daughter, LeaAnn Stagg of Afton, Minn.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Dan of Spring Lake Park and Lowell of LeSueur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Leon; and sister, Glada Berg.
A Celebration of LeRoy's Life will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 Vine St., Hudson, with Pastor Brian Furguson from Mt. Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Family and friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral services are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
