Jean Conley, 77

Jean Conley, age 77, of Hudson, Wis., died on the evening of Feb. 18 at The Gathering at Boutwells Landing, surrounded by her family. This comes after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jean Conley, age 77, of Hudson, Wis., died on the evening of Feb. 18 at The Gathering at Boutwells Landing, surrounded by her family. This comes after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jean was born on May 22, 1934, to Henry and Myrtle (Johnson) Levaque in Cloquet, Minn. She grew up in Rush City, Minn., and lived in St. Cloud, Minn.; Cloquet; Luverne, Minn.; Roberts, Wis.; Hammond, Wis.; Glenwood City, Wis.; and three different locations in Hudson.

She was united in marriage to Jerrol Conley on Aug. 25, 1956, in Cloquet. This marriage was blessed with four children: Joe, Joy, Jack, and Jayne.

She earned a master's degree as a reading specialist from UW-River Falls and touched the lives of hundreds of children during her 28 years as a teacher, finishing her career in Glenwood City. In 1991, she began a fruitful and enjoyable retirement, which included being a "Winter Texan."

Jean was always encouraging and supportive in her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She played the role of the rock of the family and lived confidently in her faith. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain friends and family. Jean enjoyed playing bridge, loved to square dance, and was a talented seamstress. She was active with volunteer work in her church, teaching children to read, and helping families from other countries settle in the area.

Jean is survived by her husband, Jerrol; sons, Joe and Jack (Helen); daughters, Joy (Steve) Pitzl and Jayne (Mike) Braun; grandchildren, Nick Pitzl, Conley Pitzl, Jacob Conley and Carter Braun; great-grandson, Emmett Hintze; sister, Evelyn Anderson; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, Henry and Myrtle Levaque, and brother, Henry Levaque Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Jean will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the church as well as from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home - Hudson Chapel.
