James "Jim" A. Vetter, 72, Hudson, formerly of Marathon, died Wednesday, May 2, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Marywood Center, Wausau, where he resided since April 2, 2012.
James "Jim" A. Vetter, 72, Hudson, formerly of Marathon, died Wednesday, May 2, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Marywood Center, Wausau, where he resided since April 2, 2012.
He was born May 6, 1939, in Marathon, son of the late Alex and Mona (Trochinski) Vetter.
He lived his early childhood years in Marathon, Elkhorn, and Crandon, and attended St. Peter Catholic School in Beaver Dam and Beaver Dam High School. Jim received his college degree at Madison Business College and worked for Alliant Energy (Wisconsin Power and Light) in Madison from 1961 until his retirement in 1994. During his working years, he lived in Portage and, in 2000, he moved to Hudson.
When Jim was young, he began camping with his parents in a tent and eventually graduated to his own RV. He was a member of the Good Sam RV Club-Apple River Drifters Chapter and was Good Sam's state secretary since 1997 and the secretary of the Wisingles for 5 years. Jim was an active member of the Lions Club in Portage and Hudson, having perfect attendance for 36 years. He was Lion of the year four times and received the Melvin James Fellowship and Birch-Sturm Fellowship awards. He held various local and state offices over the past 36 years.
Jim enjoyed spending all holidays with his three cousins and their families.
Survivors include his three special cousins: Jackie Lemanski, Marathon; Irene (Chet) Hoffman, Mosinee; and Sandy (LaVern) Lang, Marathon, and their families; a god-daughter, Lisa Drews-Tran, Waukesha; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Marathon. Rev. Joseph Diermeier will officiate. Friends may call Sunday from noon until the time of services, all at the Marathon funeral home.
There will also be a memorial service in St. Croix Falls at a later date.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at Marywood Center and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their special care, kindness, and compassion given to Jim.
