Donald J. Nestrud, age 82, of Hudson, Wis., passed away on Sept. 9 at Comforts of Home in River Falls after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Donald was born on Aug. 31, 1930, in Emerald Township, Wis., to Olaf and Mary (Jensen) Nestrud. On Dec. 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Virginia Laabs, a marriage that would be blessed with two children: David and Jamie. Don worked for over 20 years at Armour Packing Plant in South St. Paul, Minn., as well as on his family farm in Hudson.

Don's greatest passion in life was farming. His farm, where he raised registered, purebred Angus cattle, was his pride and joy, and many said that it was his occupation and hobby all in one. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army, and his time in the service during the Korean conflict afforded him the ability to travel in Europe while stationed in Germany. He was also a 4-H leader for the meat animal project as well as a supervisor on the St. Joseph town board.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; sons, Dave (Linda) Nestrud of Hudson and Jamie (Christine) Nestrud of Hudson; grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, and Katelyn Nestrud of Hudson; brothers Leonard (Muriel) Nestrud and Floyd (Marie) Nestrud; sisters Irene (Vern) Waxon, Ardis Swenson, Anita Smith, and Marlyce (Allan) Huppert; along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the O'Connell Funeral Home in Hudson. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1097 Scott Rd., Burkhardt, Wis., with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at Willow River Cemetery.

Services are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 715-386-3725, www.oconnellfuneralhomes.com.
