Ruby Bauer, 91

Ruby Lorraine Engdahl Bauer, age 91, of Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Hudson, Wis., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Ruby Lorraine Engdahl Bauer, age 91, of Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Hudson, Wis., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, at St. John's Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Ruby was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Hudson, the daughter of Frank and Hilma (Larson) Engdahl. She was raised in Hudson, graduating from Hudson High School in 1939. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, graduating in 1941. Her first teaching job was home economics in Sheboygan, Wis.

On Sept. 18, 1943, she was united in marriage with Robert L. Bauer in San Antonio, Texas, while Bob was serving in the Unites States Army Air Force. Following Bob's discharge, they returned to Hudson where she lived until moving to Albert Lea to join her daughter and son-in-law in the summer of 2007.

In 1965, Ruby returned to college at UW - River Falls and completed her degree in elementary education. Following her graduation in 1967, she began teaching first grade at the Afton-Lakeland (MN) Elementary School. She remained there until her retirement in 1983.

She was a lifelong member of the Hudson United Methodist Church and very active in the life of the church. She especially enjoyed the yearly fall bazaars and the chili luncheons. Ruby was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed wild flowers, gardening, cooking, and baking for her family. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Hudson friends. She loved to share her Swedish ancestry through holiday traditions.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob); parents, Hilma and Frank Engdahl; brother, Raymond; sister Myrtle; and sister Doris Engdahl of Minneapolis.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bauer Rorvick; son-in-law, James Rorvick; grandson, Christopher Rorvick (Michelle); granddaughter, Sarah Rorvick (Jason) of Minneapolis; great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rorvick; and great-grandson, Alexander Rorvick of Naperville.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, with a gathering time for family and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. She will be buried with her family at Willow River Cemetery in Hudson.

Funeral services have been entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
