Lucy Ann Smith, age 78, of Hudson, died Friday, Nov. 2, at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.

Lucy was born on Nov. 1, 1934, in River Falls, Wis., the daughter of Raymond and Jean Margaret (Graham) Foster. She went to elementary school in Port Washington and graduated from Roberts High School. She furthered her education receiving a degree in elementary education in River Falls. She worked as a teacher for the Afton-Lakeland Schools and Weyerhaeuser school district. On June 10, 1957, she was united in marriage to her best friend and soul mate, Richard "Dick" Smith, at Roberts United Church of Christ. This union would be further blessed with four children: Jennie, Minda, David, and Diane.

Lucy enjoyed crocheting, reading, and visiting historical museums. Her faith and family came foremost. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and later United Methodist Church, both in Hudson. She taught Sunday school and was active in their ladies circles. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed traveling/camping on vacations with the family and looking into their genealogy. She was very proud to be a grandmother and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lucy is survived by her children, Jennie (Joel) Foust, Minda Barthman (Tim Foster), David (Kelli) Smith, Diane (Michael) Coto; grandchildren, Luke (Sarah) Petersen, Cole (Jena) Petersen, Wade Petersen, Alaina Barthman, Jacob Foust (Jamie Nyholt), Jessica (Joel) Albers, Ryan Smith, Cyle Smith, Katherine Coto, Hannah Coto; great-grandchildren, Cru, Lane, Peyton, Atigun; brothers/sisters-in-law Mary Kay Foster, Jean Foster, Ted Smith; special nieces/nephews, Reed (Emily) Foster and Melinda Foster.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; brothers, Wilson "Bill" and James Foster; and sister-in-law Loretta Smith.

Celebration of Life for Lucy will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the United Methodist Church in Hudson with Pastors Ruwall Freese and Bruce Stunkard officiating. Burial will be in the Willow River Cemetery in Hudson with her grandchildren serving as bearers. Visitation will only be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorials are preferred to the Christian Community Home or Relay for Life.
