Jean Alice Erickson (Lyon), 85, of Hudson, Wis., and Marco Island, Fla., lived until Nov. 7.

Born on July 13, 1927, Jean was the daughter of Harold and Pearl Elliott and grew up in La Grange, Ill. She graduated from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., receiving her B.A in music in 1949, where she met her future husband, Dean Erickson.

Jean Alice Elliott and Dean M. Erickson were married on Nov. 12, 1949, in La Grange. They made their home in Hudson where they raised three sons: Greg, Steve, and Stew.

While Dean ran the family grocery business, Jean was an avid volunteer in the Hudson community. She was named Outstanding Conservationist in 1967 by the Wisconsin Federation of Women’s Clubs and served as president of the Hudson area P.T.A. as well as many other volunteer community positions. Jean was a passionate supporter of Carleton College and an active member of her class of 1949.

Jean tirelessly volunteered at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson over the years and continued to participate at the Tuesday Sewing Circle. As an accomplished pianist, she played at her church and gave piano lessons in Hudson for many years.

Jean traveled the entire globe with great adventure. She filmed Dean’s safari in its entirety as he hunted in the depths of Africa. Jean learned to hunt and fish and was a very good shot. She learned to fly and successfully completed her solo flight, was a good golfer, and played a mean game of bridge.

In later years, Jean and Dean built their home in Marco Island where they spent their winters. They summered in Brainerd and Hudson until Dean’s passing in 1996.

In 2002, Jean married Robert Lyon. They lived on Marco Island and enjoyed art, music, and world traveling. They later moved to Hudson.

Throughout her life, Jean lived every day to the fullest, with love, kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm. Jean cherished her family, friends, and noble causes. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, art, drawing, and painting. Her grandchildren knew she was always up for a game of cards, a good practical joke, a sing-along at the piano, or reading a good story together. They will remember her wisdom, playful and positive attitude, and sense of humor.

Jean was preceded by her parents, Harold M. Elliott and Pearl E. Elliott; husband Dean M. Erickson; and brother Thomas Elliott.

Survived by her husband Robert Lyon; children, Greg (Jamie McNaughton), Steve (Sharon Olson), Stew (Vicky); grandchildren, Jon, Chris, Logan, Luke, Hunter, Christina; brother Jim (Kay) Elliott; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A Time of Reflection was held Sunday, Nov. 11, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. A Celebration of Life and Remembrance was held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson on Monday, Nov. 12.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, The Phipps Center for the Arts, YMCA Camp St. Croix.
