Harold grew up on Third Street in St. Paul. Following graduation from Pillsbury Academy, Harold entered the Minnesota Air National Guard. He served his country in both civilian and military roles for the duration of his career and was activated numerous times including serving time in Vietnam. Harold and Marge lived in Roseville from 1955 until they moved permanently to Garrison, Minn., and La Floresta, Mexico, following Harold's retirement in 1986.
Harold enjoyed golfing, travel, singing at church and the local La Floresta theatre, building things (including an airplane in the basement) and the family cabin, as well as spending time with family, friends, and dogs at his Kenney Lake summer home. He was a true gentleman and friend to everyone who knew him. In his last 11 years, he was afflicted with Alzheimer's and lived his last 4 years at Comforts of Home in Hudson, who took wonderful care of him.
He joins his wife of 53 years, Margery (Grosberg) Dahlquist, and his parents, Harold and Lillian (Bibeau) Dahlquist, in heaven.
Harold is survived by his brother, Alfred; sons, David (Lorrie), Doug (Leslie Kiszely), Don (Lynette); and daughter, Vicki (Curt) Kehr. He also leaves seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He is further survived by one uncle, Noe Bibeau, and sisters and brothers-in-law: Barb Dahlquist, Claire (Art) Spurling, Harriet (Eugene) Andersen, Cliff (Barb) Grosberg, and Judy Grosberg.
A memorial service of Harold’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson. Burial will be at Minnesota Veteran’s Cemetery at Camp Ripley at a later date. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or donor's choice.
