David R. Garrity, age 68, of Hudson, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at his residence, surrounded by family.

Dave was born June 24, 1944, in St. Joseph, Mo., to parents Richard P. and Marie M. (Merkt) Garrity. Dave moved with his family to Wisconsin and graduated from Somerset High School with the Class of 1962. Dave enlisted in the Navy, where he served on a submarine. After discharge from the Navy, Dave attended UW-River Falls. He would be united in marriage on June 25, 1966, to Gayle DuRand, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Somerset. Their union would be blessed with four children and 46 years of marriage.

Dave was an entrepreneur, a self-employed man involved in many ventures. Even in post-retirement, Dave enjoyed working at Home Depot. Outside of work, Dave enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, flower gardening, old cars, and travel, especially road trips out west to the mountains. As a "political junkie," Dave loved to read. He also took on many remodeling projects around the house. Dave's true legacy was that of a devoted family man: a loving husband and dad, and the kind of grandpa who loved to fish with his grandkids and show his love through teasing and playing with them.

Dave is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gayle; children, Chance (Michele) Garrity of Woodbury, Bridgett Garrity of Riverton, Wyo., Justin (Alisha) Garrity of Portland, Ore., and Katie (Matthew Macander) Garrity of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Adam and Lauren Garrity, Trevor, David, Whitman, and Violet Garrity, and Sophia, Gwendalynn, and Isaac Macander; siblings, Rita (Craig) Letourneau, Mike Garrity, Dan Garrity, Paul Garrity, Joan Clotfelter, and Pat (Irma) Garrity; nieces and nephews, Shannon, Nathan, and Simone Letourneau and Kelli Garrity; and numerous other relatives, in-laws, and close friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie.

Mass of Christian Burial for David Garrity will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 139 Church Hill Rd., Somerset. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to Mass at church. A celebration of David's life will take place from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th St. S., Hudson.

Services entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 715-386-3725.
