Josephine Mary Fitch (Dean), age 94, of Hudson, Wis., formerly of Syracuse, N.Y.; Manlius, N.Y.; and Berea, Ohio, died on the evening of Feb. 12 at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.
Josephine was born on Nov. 27, 1918, to John and Mary (Falvey) Deane in Syracuse. She grew up in Syracuse and graduated from North High School in 1937. After high school, Jo attended the Comptometer School of Syracuse and graduated in 1938. It was after high school that Jo began dating Roland Fitch. The two were united in marriage on April 26, 1941, in Syracuse. The marriage would be blessed with three children: John, Paul, and Pat. The newly-formed Fitch family settled in Syracuse where Roland worked as a design engineer and Jo worked as a clerical worker. Jo and Roland spent 3 years in Ohio for his work at Kysor before returning to Syracuse. They made their final move to Hudson in 2005 to be closer to family. Roland passed away on Oct. 16, 2005, after 64 years of marriage, and Jo remained at the Christian Community Home.
Jo was a very active woman with her friends, family, and community. She worked as a poll worker during election time and also helped with the census. With her children, she was involved with the Boy and Girl Scouts. She also enjoyed bowling league and dancing with her husband. Jo enjoyed camping with her children and Roland, and she was a member of the Good Sam's Club in Syracuse. She spent her retirement with Roland RV-ing through different parts of the country. She was an active member of her Catholic church in Syracuse and Fayetteville-Manlius.
Jo is survived by her son John (Catherine) Fitch of Fairview, W.V.; daughter-in-law, Rosie Fitch of Great Bend, Pa.; daughter, Pat (Stephen) Cox of Hudson; grandchildren, Bethany (Jason) Zaborowski, Sara (Michael) Tamir, Joshua (Amy) Fitch, Becky (Scott) Kindig, Paul Fitch Jr., and Christopher, Greg, Brian and Tim Cox; and great-grandchildren, Evan, Emma, Damiana, Laura, and Jonathan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Deane, and son Paul Fitch Sr.
A funeral Mass for Josephine will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Visitation will take place 1 hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will take place on Friday, Feb. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Syracuse. Memorials may be donated in Jo's name to son Paul's Library Fund at Hallstead-Great Branch Library, PO Box 476, Hallstead, PA 18822.
