Letter-Sees ideas co-existing
Ms. Berg is incorrect in her estimation that “…something like 75 percent of us don’t buy Darwin’s lies!” Forty-seven percent of Americans believe in evolution while 46 percent believe in creationism (Gallup, 2012). Ms. Berg overestimates the percentage of Darwinian deniers by an astounding 63 percent.

Letter- City needs more balance
I am wondering if the pendulum has swung too much in one direction in Hudson. I believe that Hudson currently is out of balance between the interests of business and the interests of its individual citizens. After attending the last city council meeting, I am concerned that the members of the city council are not representing a balanced approach to city planning.

Letters- Appreciates construction
We appreciate the extra care and planning that is being taken to insure that the Postmark Grille will be a Jewel of Historic Downtown Hudson- inside, outside, and around the southwest corner of the Kitchen Addition. My wife, Anne, and I live just 2 blocks away on Vine Street, and I have been observing the construction and details.

Letter-Critical of letter writer
I hope most of the readers of this paper are sophisticated enough to recognize the exaggerations and misrepresentations in the recent letter titled ”UW-RF series repeats ’lies’” (Sept. 14) by Meredith Berg. Contrary to Ms. Berg’s claims, her views are not shared by a majority of Americans, but instead represent extreme anti-science, anti-public education sentiments cloaked in minority creationist interpretation of the bible. As such, they require a response.

Book Review: Insider knowledge leads to gripping story; Feingold's "While America Sleeps"
White Bear Lake novelist Julie Kramer makes good use of her past experience as a news producer for NBC, CBS and WCCO-TV, which is only one reason she has become a national bestselling and award winning author of thrillers like her latest in her popular Riley Spartz series, “Shunning Sarah” (Atria Books, $23.99).

Letter-Professor Defends class
I must respond to the recent letter to the editor by Ms.Meredith Berg strongly critical of my upcoming talk at the University of Wisconsin- River Falls on St. Croix Valley geology. There are a number of misconceptions in her letter, and I will address a few.

Letter-Independent backs Obama
I am a registered independent voter. I earned that status by splitting the ticket, voting for responsible Republicans like Tommy Thompson. I even voted for Reagan in his second term -- not for his ridiculous trickle-down theory that still haunts us today, but for the "Morning in America" ad campaign that expressed his American optimism.

This is in reply to Meredith Berg's letter to the editor in the Star-Observer on Sept. 13. We have been going to "Morning with the Professor" since we have retired. We go there to hear lectures, meet the professor and take part in the discussion that follows the lecture.

A former state attorney general and well-known area historian will join the ranks of Hudson High School alumni on the building’s Wall of Fame. Letter-Obituary for white goose?
Whitey the Goose, presumed dead - Summer 2012. Whitey the Goose, also known as Whiteford, Pale Face, Al Byno, and, unaccountably, Princess, was the Embden gander who flew to freedom on the day of The Great Goose Roundup in June of 2006.

Letters- UW-RF series repeats ‘lies’
It was interesting for me to read that the University of Wisconsin is once more going to attempt to advance its Darwinian theory of evolution on our area’s people through its lecture series, “Morning with the Professor.”

Letter-Tax dollars at work?
In the St. Paul Pioneer Press they have a weekly column for Sainted and Tainted deeds. I will have to qualify this article as tainted, in regard to the Hudson School District and their action to cut costs.

Letter-Turn signal problems
There is an epidemic of drivers who don’t signal their intentions: left turns, right turns, lane changes on the freeway or no signal. It could be ignorance, or it could be a large amount of cell phone or text users who have their hands full.

Letters-Key word is ‘advisory’
Much has been written recently about how the voters have spoken regarding our property tax funding for our county-owned nursing home in New Richmond. Supporters, like my former county board and kindhearted colleague, Buzz Marzolf, believe board members are obligated to follow the results of the last two advisory referendums posed to the voters.

Letter- Dislikes addition
Yesterday, as I was exiting Knoke’s -- a beautifully restored and remodeled building on Locust Street -- I looked over at the old post office and nearly dropped my cone! There I saw an enormous, windowless, two-story cement box being constructed on the west side of that stately old building, originally built in 1939.

Letter- Track is best site
Both Hudson City Council and Hudson School Board are made up of elected citizens who are committed to serving the community. We are all working to provide quality services in the most fiscally responsible manner. The school board is sensitive to the city's loss of $25,000 in tax revenue if they vote to rezone St. Croix Meadows from commercial to public.

To provide modern facilities meeting their aging population’s needs, Dunn County built new cluster facilities, home-like with private rooms, private baths, and common areas. I've researched cash flow and income statements for this preferred home of Dunn County.
