Overall, the statewide gun-deer harvest is up over 19 percent from 2011, and registration increased in all regions, the Wisconsin DNR reported late Monday. Warm weather likely had some hunters registering their deer right away instead of leaving them hang at camp, which likely bumped up the numbers.

The evening was perfect. The weather was just right on Aug. 11. As we found our seats at Miller Park in Milwaukee, the crowd grew and the excitement mounted. We were not there for a baseball game but for the world premiere of “Honor Flight,” the full-length feature movie about the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight program.

A few years ago Mike Brew retired from driving truck and warehouse work. He discovered that he was not destined to relax. He started repairing small engines, a skill he’s had since his youth. “I always did this,” said Brew, who tinkered with snowmobiles, 4-wheelers and motorcycles while he was growing up. Brew, a St. Paul native, has lived in Hudson for seven years.
