St. Croix EDC elects officers, new directors 
Baldwin resident Tom Schumacher was elected to a one-year term as president. Schumacher is a business attorney with Bakke Norman S.C. He replaces Patti Robertson of Hudson who completed her term as president.

The St. Croix Valley Bar Association is staffing a free legal clinic the second Monday of every month for the purpose of providing general legal information to members of the community.

County ponders merging emergency management duties
Decisions about having a fulltime St. Croix County emergency management director and keeping the department free-standing rather than merging it with another emergency response department will be delayed until 2010.

River Falls free clinic awarded federal funds
U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, announced Wednesday, Sept. 9, that the Free Clinic of Pierce and St. Croix Counties is receiving a $150,480 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services Rural Health Outreach Special Initiative Program.

‘Open carry’ event planned for Hudson
The organizer of an “Open Carry Picnic” to be held Aug. 23 at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds in Glenwood City says he is planning another event in Hudson in a few months, according to a report in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram.
