Paper drive success leads to permanent program
In the month of January, a community-wide paper drive was held by the Hudson School District’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (R3) Committee and the Middle School Radical Recyclers Club.

The Hudson Middle School is one of six schools statewide to receive a Middle School of Excellence award at this week’s Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA) Middle-Level Principals Conference in Appleton.

Middle school gets $25,000 grant
The Hudson Middle School has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Kern Family Foundation to implement and expand the district’s Project Lead the Way program, an engineering curriculum that is in its first year at Hudson High School.

Hudson teacher inspired by last fall’s China visit
Hudson Middle School seventh-grade social studies teacher Mike Yell traveled to China recently and found the experience to be “incredible.” He led a group of teachers from around the United States in a People to People Citizen Ambassador Program.

More than 2,000 vaccinated at Hudson schools
The H1N1 flu vaccine, in both the shot and nasal spray, is now available to the general public. Many of the parents showing up with their children for the school clinics were not aware that they could be vaccinated as well.

Hudson students selected for WSMA honors
Last February (high school) and last April (middle school), 50 Hudson middle and high School music students auditioned in Eau Claire for the opportunity to become members of the 2009 Wisconsin Middle Level Band, Choir or Orchestra or Wisconsin High School Honors Band, Choirs, or Orchestra.

‘Ginger’ Schneider retires after 33 years
From her childhood days “playing school” at a blackboard in her playroom, Virginia “Ginger” Schneider has wanted to be a teacher. She will retire from teaching physical education and health for 33 years with the end of the school year next week.
