Longtime local educator Olson dies
A longtime Hudson educator, Maynard N. Olson, age 77, of North Hudson, died Friday at Christian Community Home in Hudson.
Olson was an elementary coordinator at the Hudson Community Schools for 14 years from 1965 to 1979. He spent the last years in the district as a teacher at Fourth Street/Willow River Elementary before retiring in 1992.

Hudson Mower Doctor’s clients still have someone to turn to
A few years ago Mike Brew retired from driving truck and warehouse work. He discovered that he was not destined to relax. He started repairing small engines, a skill he’s had since his youth.
“I always did this,” said Brew, who tinkered with snowmobiles, 4-wheelers and motorcycles while he was growing up. Brew, a St. Paul native, has lived in Hudson for seven years.

HHS grad heads to Africa with the Peace Corps
Anyone who knows Jacci Zappa will probably not be surprised by her decision to devote the next two years serving others as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania, Africa.
The 24-year-old graduated from Hudson High School in 2006. She was a member of the HHS Peer Helpers and one of the “popular kids” who had a reputation for being nice to everyone.

Back to Mac after 48 years
It started with an invitation for alumni members to volunteer for move-in day Aug. 31 when the first-year students, freshmen we use to call them, show up for their first day of college life.
I thought, “Why not?” It had been 48 years, since I was a prospective new student at Macalester College in St. Paul on a hot August day in 1964. I’d go back and see what it’s all about these days.
