Boys No. 6 seed in hoops regional
Following a 55-43 victory over Eau Claire North last Thursday to improve to 12-8 overall, the Hudson boys’ basketball team was given the No. 6 seed in the 14-team regional bracket and will open the playoffs at No. 3 Chippewa Falls next Friday, March 2, in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal.

Basketball: Girls drop two straight
The Raider girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead last Friday night at Eau Claire North but the Huskies outscored Hudson 38-11 in the second and third quarters on their way to a 60-43 victory.

Coach assists Special Olympians
Jason Swavely, Hudson varsity boys’ basketball coach, hosted a basketball skills mini-camp for the Kinnickinnic Special Olympics Saturday, Jan. 7. The group is a local division of Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI).

After coming up one basket short in a one-point loss at Rice Lake back on Jan. 7, last Saturday’s rematch between the Raider and Warrior girls basketball teams was all Hudson.

The Raider girls’ basketball team lost a pair of three-point games last week, coming up short to Eau Claire Memorial, 55-52, at home last Tuesday, Jan. 31 before dropping a 42-39 decision Friday, Feb. 3 at Menomonie.

WIAC titles on the line Saturday at Karges
Both the UW-River Falls men’s and women’s basketball teams can earn at least shares of their respective Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championships when they take on UW-Whitewater in a college basketball doubleheader Saturday at Karges Center.
The Falcon women host the Warhawks at 3 p.m. while the men’s game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Boys hoops splits pair
Following a 48-38 nonconference loss at home to Edina, Minn. last Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Raider boys’ basketball team went on the road and posted a 46-43 Big Rivers Conference victory over Eau Claire Memorial Friday to improve to 4-3 in conference play.

UW-River Falls’ senior basketball player Shane Manor posted back-to-back 18 point games, Maranda Dohrn set a career rebound mark, the Falcon men's hockey team defeated St. Norbert College in Green bay, and the women’s hockey team swept Marian in last week's college sports action.
